First Steps...

Final Inked version... The title is a bit misleading, for the "mare" here is fully grown... supposed to refer to me starting a new species... Also, i modified the name (from "dracoos" to "dracorse" because the first's ending made the creature sound more like a 'goose' instead of a horse... The entamolgy is taken from the scrap version, though, i added a couple things...

A dracorse is half horse, half dragon mix... A smooth blend of the two creatures creating an enitrly new species... though most features point to predominently draconic, all mating, reproductive, and mothering characteristics are equestrian...
-large semi flexible rear cloven hooves are a blend of draconic rear paws and the weaker hooves of a horse. This suggests that a dracorse requires no cliff or hill to take flight (neither does a dragon in most cases, but one is preferable to a static takoff), that a dracorse can gallop easily into flight. static take-offs are now harder to accomplish because of this... Large triple toed, clawed paws facilitate hunting for the forelegs. Also, dracorses are three toed instead of the normal four with posable thumb, allowing for fast land speeds, and still hunting capable...
-Wings are mainly a soft scally leather membrane, covering a five fingered, claw tipped wing pinion, soft feathers closly coat the pinon arm and dorsal edge of the wing and fading quickly into the leathery wing membrane...
-Flying is another draconic enhanced ability, and are quite excelent flyers... there smaller form and larger wingspan ratio makes them quicker in terms of acrobatics and manuvering, but are no match for true dragons shear speed and strength...
-the dracorse are not inherently meat eaters, but with the mixing of the two species, they do crave it on occasion, and are exceptionally capable of hunting both on land, and in the air for live prey, yet they mostly feed on plants and fish, there skills more adept at seeking and diving above water, skimming the surface and using front claws to capture and help consume...
-there nature and personality is a docile one, and seek privacy, except with there own species, then being very sociable and playful... Though, a mother dracorse is Very protective of her younge, not even allowing her mate near the infant until the newborns wings are developed enough for flight (which isnt long).
-also, dracorses are unable to breath flame, a complex ability lost during the blending of species, though, they do retain an extra stomach used in the flame process... this roughly means they eat slightly more than normal equestrians, yet need to eat less frequently, and absorb more from each meal, and store more energy for flight and general bodily functions... this explains why it is nearly impossible to catch or even tire a wild dracorse...

[re-edit] Sized down the image slightly but still is rather large... also added "accents" with micron .01 pen, a pre-stage to actual coloring... though i think there was enough added to deserve another scan and edit... now i just need to figure out what media to use (markers? col. pencils?) and then the colors... though, i have a fair idea of what colors im looking for...[/re-edit]
